Highlights

In light of the European Week Against Cancer, taking place from May 25 to May 31, EU-OSHA is publishing complementary research materials that contribute to the fight against occupational cancer. Following the first findings of the Workers’ Exposure Survey (WES) on occupational cancer risk factors in Europe, the agency is now releasing a detailed methodological report. 

Based on the Australian Work Exposures Study and using an innovative tool (OccIDEAS), WES has been adapted to the European context and implemented in six countries. Several controls and data weighting procedures were applied to the data collected, ensuring high-quality, consistent and unbiased results. 

Details of the criteria for the inclusion of cancer risk factors covered in WES, such as substance information, health effects and related legislation, can also be found in the newly released material.
