The European Pillar of Social Rights: going forward together

On 23rd January 2017, the European Commission held a conference on the European Pillar of Social Rights which will be an important milestone in wrapping up the public consultation launched in March of last year and defining the future direction of the Pillar.

Workshops included discussions on fair working conditions for all, tackling poverty, the future of work and social protection and the social dimension of the Economic and Monetary Union. The President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, and other high level speakers attended the conference.

Once established, the Pillar should become the framework to screen the employment and social performance of participating Member States, to drive reforms at national level and, more specifically, to serve as a compass for the renewed process of convergence within the euro area.
