Building the European Pillar of Social Rights: OSH Community’s voice is needed

In March, the European Commission launched a broad public consultation on a new key initiative: ‘European Pillar of Social Rights’. The project aims to contribute to the development of Europe’s ‘social acquis’ which guides Member States in developing their national social and employment policy.

The right to health and safety at work is one of the essential principles to be set out by the Pillar in the light of new challenges arising from less stable employment relationships, new working  patterns and an ageing  workforce.

The OSH Community is strongly encouraged to contribute to shaping the European Pillar of Social Rights.

Throughout 2016, the European Commission is engaged in a debate with EU authorities, social partners, civil society and citizens. The outcome of this debate should feed into the establishment of the European Pillar of Social Rights in early 2017.
