From assembly lines to hospitals: 8 case studies on integrating collaborative robots with worker safety in mind

Collaborating with robots to make our jobs easier and safer is no longer a thing of the future.

EU-OSHA has analysed the use of robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) based systems to automate tasks in workplaces, paying special attention to its impact on the safety and health of workers.

The aim is to understand how to integrate such systems, including cobots (or collaborative robots), safely and effectively at work and ensure that they become an asset rather than a risk.

The conclusions are laid out in eight case studies covering different work experiences: automating livestock manure cleaning; sawmill production; assembly lines and industrial manufacturing; sewing in the automotive industry; palletising and de-palletising; smart automations in steel manufacturing; advanced robotics in plastic products manufacturing and; AI in medical diagnostics.
