Are you a parrot on a switchboard or a rat in a maze?
This was the question posed at EU-OSHA when they received visitors from Prevent Sweden who were demonstrating their new ICT stress resources. Prevent is Scandinavia’s leading provider of knowledge and training in the field of health and safety.
Stress at work associated with information and communication technologies (ICT) is a serious concern as it impacts on so many workers - there are few of us who are totally removed from such technologies.
With Krister Skoglund on his visit to Bilbao were Frida Fossland and Ingrid Samuelsson. They demonstrated the new Prevent Sweden resources - in available in English and Swedish - that can be found at http://www.prevent.se/EN/teknikpanik.
The centrepiece of the resources is a web-based questionnaire that can help survey ICT related stress in the workplace. This free-to-use tool can then form the basis of discussions on how to meet the challenges faced.
In addition, there is a more light-hearted tool for making an assessment of your own interaction with ICT that leads you to be assigned to a particular type of animal - which can then be shared through social media!
Prevent Sweden is a non-profit organisation whose principals are the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, the Swedish Trade Union Confederation (LO) and the Council for Negotiation and Co-operation (PTK), and the solutions they develop have the approval and support of the trade unions, employers and sectoral organisations.
EU-OSHA also has substantial resources for addressing work-related stress.
