Description

The Stoffenmanager is an electronic tool supporting the occupational exposure and risk assessment from chemicals, with the nanomodule focussing on nanoparticles, i.e. chemicals which are in at least 1 dimension smaller than 100 nm. It allows to qualitatively assess occupational health risks from inhalation exposure to Manufactured Nano Objects (MNO). An action plan with preventive measures can be developed.

For more information on exposure to nanoparticles or control measures click here for:

You can use the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and / or product information sheets of your products to determine whether your company is working with nanoparticles. We refer to the background page for an overview of common work situations in which the presence of MNO is likely.

If after consulting the data/information sheets, there is no clear indication of the presence of MNO, but you suspect that your product does contain MNO, please contact your supplier. It is still possible to use Stoffenmanager Nano

Stoffenmanager Nano applies to MNO that meet all of the following criteria:

  • Particles are not (water) soluble, and;
  • The particles are purposely (synthetically) produced and not released as unintentional by-product, such as the particle production as a result of incomplete combustion processes, and
  • The size of the primary particle is smaller than 100 nm and / or the specific surface area of a nanopowder is larger than 60 m2/g;
  • It concerns single particles as well as agglomerates or aggregates.

If your particle does not meet the above stated criteria the Stoffenmanager Nano is not suitable to assess your substance. For those substances we refer you to the generic Stoffenmanager 4.5.

Stoffenmanager Nano is a ‘work-in-process’ online tool that reflects the current knowledge on risks related to working with nanomaterials. It will be further adjusted when new insights become available (Disclaimer)

More information on among others the applicability domain and the scientific model can be found in Background.
