The staff and students working in chemistry laboratories at universities can be exposed to many different risks and hazards. This guidance document produced by the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) provides instructions for safe working in chemistry labs. The guiddance includes instructions on the safe handling of chemicals, tools and equipment in chemistry labs; waste management and cleaning; the risks and hazards of fire and explosion; working with electrical equipment; working with radiation; health hazards; respiratory protection; and first aid. In the annex, there is a list of carcinogenic substances. Unfortunately, the information about classification and labelling is not up to date.
