The guidance was compiled for the University College Dublin in order to serve as a source of information and as a guide to those persons who work with hazardous chemical agents within University College Dublin. This document also makes reference to the requirements of Irish Chemical Safety Regulations, in particular the importance of the completion of adequate and appropriate risk assessment by persons working with chemical agents. Many specific chemicals (like: organic solvents, silica dust, asbestos fibres, benzene, hydrogen cyanide, carbon tetrachloride, sodium hydroxide contacts aluminium, zinc, nitrogen dioxide and phosgene etc) are described in the document with a special focus on pregnant women. In addition, the current manual describes responses to chemical exposure, requirements to storage of chemicals and handling chemical safety.
