Czech Republic

In the Czech Republic, safety, health and well-being at work fall primarily within the competences of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, which also takes care of the dialogue with social partners and the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic. To a limited extent the subject falls within the competences of Czech Mining Office and the State Office for Nuclear Safety as well.

The labour inspection "State Labour Inspection Office" with its regional inspectorates enforces the compliance with occupational safety and labour conditions standards. The State Authority for Protection of Health at Work that is a part of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic is responsible for enforcement of standards of health at work. The Czech Mining Office enforces the compliance with occupational health and safety standards at the mining industry and when utilizing explosives. The State Office for Nuclear Safety is responsible for regulatory affairs when dealing with ionizing radiations.

The tripartite Council for Occupational Safety and Health, the advisory body for the Czech Government coordinates activities of numerous state authorities and social partners in the field of occupational safety and health. The Chair of the Council is the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs.

The Czech Focal Point coordinates and manages the national occupational safety and health network. (VUBP) the Czech Occupational Safety Research Institute and the National Institute for Public Health (SZU) are knowledge centers on occupational well-being. They gather information on safety, health and well-being at work and carry out the related research.
