Senior Labour Inspectors' Committee meeting in Hungary 13.07.2011
The Senior Labour Inspectors’ Committee – SLIC two day long meeting is organized every half a year in the given country providing the presidency of the EU.
Senior Labour Inspectors’ Committee was established in 1995 to give its opinion to the Commission, either at the Commission’s request or on its own initiative, on all problems relating to the enforcement by the Member States of Community law on health and safety at work. The SLIC is composed of the general directors of the labour inspectorates of each Member State.
Around 50 foreign participants were involved in the event representing the national inspectorates of the European Union, the European Commission, the candidate countries, the EFTA member states and several international organizations among of others the International Labour Organization (ILO), European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA), European Network Education and Training in Occupational Safety and Health (ENETOSH).
On the first day of the meeting (Thematic Day) under the title of “Sharing experience” presentations were held in two topics: Lessons learnt from evaluations of national labour inspection systems/stakeholders in OSH and Collaboration and exchange of OSH information in the EU – The role, practice and experiences of European OSH networks. On the second day (Plenary meeting) members got presentations on the evaluation and situation reports and discussed the thematic of the forthcoming SLIC meetings. The two day long event provides a basis for health and safety at work discussions in order to improve the level of labour inspectorates activity, create a closer and more efficient co-operation in Europe and contribute reducing the total incidence rate of accidents and diseases at work that are in line with the Community Safety Strategy 2007-12.
