REACH
The use of hazardous substances has also been affected by a new European chemical policy, which aims to do more to protect the environment and health. Under the new, single system for the registration, evaluation and authorisation of chemicals – known as REACH – information on chemicals must be supplied throughout the production chain, including information on the risks posed by substances and how they should be handled.
Under REACH, it is also intended to introduce authorisation for the use of some substances.
REACH will also require companies who use chemicals to pass on information to producers of chemicals or the ECHA.
REACH is administered by the European Chemicals Agency, ECHA.
