Reducing the rate of accidents to hired labour

Author:

Description

The increasing use of hired, outside labour in industries such as construction, food and metalworking in Finland is characterised by a higher than average rate of accidents and poor knowledge of occupational safety and health. There has been no research in this particular field and no publication of good practices.

The aim of this project is to research and map out the main safety problems, from the point of view of both the firms that hire out labour and those that hire it in. This will be followed by compilation of good practices and training (focusing on small enterprises), involving companies that hire in and hire out labour.

The training will increase understanding of the special problems that arise from using hired labour and will develop practical solutions to their management. Contract models will be developed in cooperation with the enterprises involved. A few will be chosen to take part in a pilot.
