Aim:
To create a basis for epidemiological research in order to follow trends
in cancer incidence, identify causes of cancer for prevention and evaluate
the effects of cancer treatment.
Content:
Contains data on all cancers in Denmark since 1943. Intended users are
researchers, government institutions, universities and hospitals. Data
are provided through notifications from hospitals, from general and specialised
practitioners and from death certificates. The basic data in the register
are: diagnosis, time of diagnosis and information on the person. It is
possible to obtain information on occupation through links with other registers.
There is information on more than 1.000.000 cases. Reports are published
yearly.
Users:
Researchers and health authorities.
Evaluation:
An evaluation was carried out in 1989 by the Danish Council for Research,
Policy and Planning. Published in International Review of Danish Environmental
research. Coverage is close to 100%. Information that needs careful interpretation
due to long lag-time between exposure and diseases.
