Short description
Owner:
National Working Environment Authority (Arbejdstilsynet)
Who pays:
National Working Environment Authority
Aim:
The purpose of the register is to create a basis to identify the causes
of occupational diseases with a view to establishing preventive measures.
Content:
A case-by-case database. It covers a large number diagnoses. Each diagnosis
can be compared with industry occupation, employer, exposures, work process,
age, sex. Around 18.000 occupational diseases are reported to the register
every year of which 15.000 are new cases. Basic results are published in
a yearly report; specific studies are performed on demand. Data has been
collected since 1983.
Users:
The users are parties to the labour market, occupational safety and health
councils, the central and regional offices of the National Working Environment
Authority
Evaluation:
Validity is questionable, coverage is variable (and less than the coverage
of occupational accidents), nomenclature variable. More than 90% of the
registered diseases are reported by physicians
Legislation:
Duty of reporting by physicians and dentists through a mandatory notification
procedure
