EU - Working conditions in fisheries: key agreement signed by social partners (23.05.2012)

Representatives of the European Union's employers and trade unions in the sea fisheries sector signed an agreement to ensure that fishermen have decent working conditions on board fishing vessels with regard to minimum requirements for conditions of service, accommodation and food, occupational safety and health protection, medical care, and social security.

For the first time in the U.S. there is a formal research and public health practice agenda for occupational safety and health for the industries of agriculture, forestry and fishing. The core content of this National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA) plan was prepared over a 20 month period based on scientific evidence, public testimonies, peer reviews, and personal expertise associated with clinical practice, organization responsibilities and industry directives.
