Advice for older workers

Everyone ages, and everyone ages differently. Changes in your body can often be compensated for by greater experience. As you get older, your ability to do your job may change, as well as your perception of your job. Where necessary, these changes should be taken into account by your employer to ensure that you can continue to work safely and healthily.

By law, your employer should be protecting you, including carrying out risk assessment and providing training. You should receive the same treatment at work as younger colleagues. “Health and safety” should not be used as an excuse for not continuing to employ you, nor should age be used as a reason for not receiving training.
