FR-Revamped site on chronic diseases at work now covers public sector 28.02.2011

Chronic diseases, disablement, occupational disease, health and safety

Thanks to continuous efforts in therapy and back-to-work strategies, the number of persons having chronic and evolutionary diseases represents about 20% of the working population today. These diseases, still called extraprofessional, have effects that are often not visible to colleagues and managers and deeply impact on the families of concerned workers.

This project aims at maintaining, in the best possible conditions, the persons affected by this type of pathologies (cancer, diabetes, HIV AIDS, multiple sclerosis, hepatitis) by an “approach by the work”. Indeed, classically, the preservation in employment aims at reclassifying the worker, through the adaptation of the post, even the creation of a new workstation, too often to the detriment of the other workers and collective work organisation. The project proposes a different approach, beyond individual measures and adaptations. While the information provided is intended for OSH actors at the enterprise level and OSH intermediaries, and makes reference to the national French context, it may help to shape policies in other countries too.
