The year 2008 marks ESADE’s 50th anniversary. Numerous academic and professional activities are being prepared to celebrate this milestone throughout the year. We could not think of a better way to celebrate this anniversary than by organizing an event connected to ESADE’s Institute for Labor Studies to highlight one of its core lines of research: connecting performance to health, well-being and quality of work life.

We have decided to bring together some of the most respected international scholars in the field of Management, Psychology and Medicine to dialogue and debate on the study of occupational burnout and organizational stress. It is both an honor and a pleasure for us to announce that some of the world’s best known international scholars such as: Cary Cooper (Lancaster University), Ulf Lundberg (Stockholm University), Arie Shirom (Tel Aviv University), Michael Leiter (Acadia University), Aleksander Perski (Karolinska Institute), Hans-Martin Hasselhorn (University of Wuppertal), and André Arsenault (Montreal Institute of Cardiology) will join us on May 29th and 30th, 2008 to take part in the debate panel. A brief curriculum of each scholar can be found in this brochure.

With these presentations, we hope to promote what we believe is a necessary and surely fruitful cross-disciplinary dialogue as scholars from three related disciplines contribute to better our understanding of stress as a phenomenon.

During the 1st day of the workshop, each speaker will deliver a presentation to be followed by comments, questions, and remarks by a pre-assigned discussant and then by the remainder of the expert panel. Questions and comments from the audience will be entertained following the panel discussion. We anticipate that this innovative interactive methodology will make the workshop exciting and beneficial to all participants.

During the 2nd day of the workshop, some celebrated cases from Spain and the rest of Europe will be shared to illustrate some innovative programs that companies have implemented to manage stress and enhance the quality of work life. We envision 4-5 cases and are structuring the sessions so that they are highly interactive.
