UK, HSE, Vehicles at work - Interactive case studies
The UK Health and Safety Executive has put together some ‘before-and-after’ interactive case studies to help you think and talk about vehicle safety in the workplace. They are all based on events that their inspectors have reported.

EU-OSHA thanks its partners for their overwhelming support
The Healthy Workplaces Campaign 2010-11 on Safe Maintenance has seen record levels of involvement over the past eighteen months. EU-OSHA would like to thank in particular its Europe-wide network of focal points and its 53 official campaign partners for their active support and is looking forward to working with them again on the next Healthy Workplaces Campaign 2012-13 on ”Working together for risk prevention”, which will be officially launched on 18 April 2012.

EU-OSHA closes record-breaking Safe Maintenance Campaign with a European occupational safety and health summit
EU-OSHA is bringing its two-year campaign on Safe Maintenance to a close. The Healthy Workplaces Summit 2011 in Bilbao brings together leading European experts and decision makers including the European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, László Andor, the new Director of EU-OSHA, Dr Christa Sedlatschek and representatives of governments and social partners.

FR-Asbestos - OEL will be significantly reduced and a new measurement method introduced
Following assessments by INRS and AFSSET of the measurement methods and workplace exposures, the French government has decided to reduce workplace exposure levels to asbestos to a tenth (from 100 fibres/l to 10 fibres/l) by 2015. Using a new method to analyse asbestos levels, the report showed that dust levels were much higher for certain materials than previously presumed.

European Week for Safety and Health at Work puts spotlight on safe maintenance
Safe maintenance is the focus of this year’s European Week for Safety and Health at Work (24 - 28 October) with a series of awareness-raising events, including workshops, seminars and exhibitions taking place all over Europe. Get ready for the European Week in your country
During the European Week for Safety and Health at Work from 24 -28 October 2011 hundreds of Campaign events and activities will take place all over Europe, including conferences, seminars, exhibitions and training sessions. The common theme linking all these activities is raising awareness of the importance of safe maintenance.
Safe maintenance in agriculture
A new safety & health guide, factsheet and PowerPoint presentation on maintenance in agriculture provide concise information on how to carry out maintenance tasks safely. Agricultural workers suffer 1.7 times the average rate of non-fatal occupational accidents and 3 times the rate of fatal accidents, making the sector particularly hazardous. In addition to the hazards and risks usually present on farms, maintenance tasks bear some specific hazards.

The report ‘Legionella and legionnaires’ disease: a policy overview’ presents the regulatory framework related to Legionella and guidelines for practical application, including policies of international organisations. Linked to the Healthy Workplaces Campaign on Safe Maintenance, the factsheet summarises the occupational aspects of exposure to Legionella and offers good practice examples of how to control Legionella risks.

On 30th June, the Progressive Alliance of Socialists & Democrats in the European Parliament organized a seminar on Asbestos hazards still existing in the European Community. EU-OSHA and the Belgian EU Presidency promote safe maintenance
EU-OSHA and the Belgian EU Presidency have joined forces to hold a one-day conference called “Maintenance: Do It Safely” in Brussels which shows how safe maintenance can save lives. This coincides with the release of EU-OSHA’s report, Safe Maintenance in Practice, outlining key strategies businesses should adopt to prevent maintenance risks.

One of the Agency’s new official Campaign partners, the Federation of the European Ergonomic Societies (FEES) will organise an international conference on the topic of quality of life: social, economic & ergonomic challenges for ageing people at work on 10-12 October 2010 in Bruges, Belgium. Maintenance and safety and health at work will be among the issues to be addressed during this event.
