European Network Day on Risk Assessment

Improving working life in the European Union is the goal of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA), and one way in which the EU-OSHA achieves this is through promoting and supporting the exchange of knowledge. Facilitating contacts and information sharing between networks with an occupational safety and health dimension is one approach by which we achieve this.

In 2008 and 2009, the EU-OSHA has been running its Healthy Workplaces Campaign on Risk Assessment. As part of this Campaign, EU-OSHA is enabling networks to share experiences and opportunities in the development, promotion, and application of risk assessment. On Monday 16 November 2009 in the Euskalduna Conference Centre, Bilbao a broad range of networks is coming together to discuss approaches to risk assessment.

The purpose of the Network Day is to build the links between a range of diverse groups and practitioners to facilitate the exchange of information and ideas, particularly on the theme of risk assessment in small and medium enterprises. Experts, OSH professionals, leaders of occupational safety and health institutions, and government representatives will be attending. The day is structured to allow groups to hold their own meetings in the morning and early afternoon, before joining for a plenary session. Following this, there will be a networking session allowing European cross-group interaction.

Members of attending networks are also welcome to attend the EU-OSHA Healthy Workplaces: European Summit 2009 that takes place on the following day.

"Effective risk assessment is the foundation on which any and all measures that keep workers safe are built. It is also a process that involves every person in the company and requires very good communication."
