Napo

The role of Napo and his friends is to provide an appetiser to safety and health at work through their engaging characters, amusing story lines, humour and light-hearted approach. “Safety with a smile” is Napo’s contribution to safer, healthier and better workplaces.

Animation and the universal language of Napo make the films ideal for anyone starting work, and for all new entrants to the labour market, including migrant and temporary workers.

There are seven films in the Napo series:

Best Signs Story
The first Napo film provides an introduction to health and safety signs and symbols found in the workplace. It provides a useful guide for new employees and a valuable refresher for other workers. A variety of different situations where safety signs are important in workplaces are demonstrated and clearly illustrated.

The Adventures of Napo
The film looks at common risks in the workplace and is ideal for those who have little or no experience of work. It highlights risk awareness and the need to work safely, and the importance or training.

Scratch and Sniff...Chemical Risks at Work
Napo is involved in a series of short sketches working with chemicals, including those that are irritants, flammable, corrosive, toxic or a danger to the environment. Each sketch is followed by a brief sequence showing how to prevent accidents by safe working practices.

Napo in Safe on Site
Napo is working on a construction site and the film shows some of the common hazards and risks on site. As an employee, Napo is faced with many hazardous situations but manages to survive his ordeal.

Napo in Clean Sweep
This film shows the health and safety risks faced by workers in the cleaning and contracting industry including slips and trips, falls, manual handling and working alone.

Napo in Stop That Noise!
Noise at work affects thousands of workers. The film is designed to illustrate some of the main causes of hearing loss and to illustrate the need to control noise at source, take preventive measures and to wear appropriate hearing protection when necessary.

The latest film in the series made for the Safe Start campaign shows Napo in a series of situations faced by most new starters in the workplace.
