Hot dishes 31.10.2005

— filed under:

“We all sat down and learnt about maintaining a safe and secure working environment. Just a few weeks later, the staff were having lunch in the dining area and someone turned on the chip pan. The temperature control was not working so the heat built up and the pan caught fire. The kitchen was filled with smoke...

One of the staff immediately put a damp cloth on top of the chip pan, another went to get the fire blanket, and someone else disconnected the mains, another person reached for the fire extinguisher while someone phoned the fire brigade. This was all done at the same time and if we had not taken part in the Week and revised our hazard handling techniques, we would not known what to do.”
