Trade union lead 30.03.2006

— filed under:

A trade union safety representative ran a series of safety training days in conjunction with a local charity. Aimed at young people aged between 12 and 14 years, the events were designed to highlight opportunities for employment in the countryside while pointing out the risks associated with farming and rural occupations using ‘real life’ situations including a farmyard, and building site scenarios in the Safety Centre. The events also involved the local Fire and Rescue Service, the local councils, and a construction company.

Secretary General IMA-Europe
"During their education, at school and university, students are prepared for their future trade or profession. The studies develop technical expertise and competence as well as an intellectual capability to solve problems. They may be initiated in data processing, informatics, communication, accounting, marketing, administration and/or legal issues. It is, however, extremely rare to find health and safety at work being taught to non-practitioners as part of their general education programme."
