Working well together 30.03.2006

— filed under:

A local trade union arranged with a nearby school to run a health and safety activity during the schools ‘citizenship’ day. They used a module from a pack of health and safety educational materials that the national trade union had developed for 14-19 year-olds, compatible with the national school curriculum, which included case studies and role-play activities. In another school they arranged for teachers to use some of the trade union materials to run activities. These activities led to a regular collaboration between the school and the trade union.

Secretary General IMA-Europe
"During their education, at school and university, students are prepared for their future trade or profession. The studies develop technical expertise and competence as well as an intellectual capability to solve problems. They may be initiated in data processing, informatics, communication, accounting, marketing, administration and/or legal issues. It is, however, extremely rare to find health and safety at work being taught to non-practitioners as part of their general education programme."
