Spray-painting guns 20.04.2006

— filed under:

A 23-year-old man suffered extensive burns from coming into contact with a flammable substance used to wash out spray-painting guns. Bad practices at the company included a lack of safe procedures for handling and storing dangerous chemicals, and lack of training and supervision. One particularly dangerous practice involved carrying the hazardous gun wash in unlabelled, open-topped buckets.

"FIEC, together with its Social Partner EFBWW, has been promoting health and safety initiatives for many years. We are convinced that one of the most promising ways towards achieving a real improvement is through the implementation of appropriate health and safety training for youngsters entering our sector. This will increase the overall awareness of risks and the possibilities of avoiding them. Consequently, FIEC wholeheartedly supports the aims of the 2006 OSHA campaign."
