Railway track 02.11.2005

— filed under:

A 22-year-old agency worker was hit and killed by a train while working on a busy area of railway track. The student had only worked a few shifts and had received only basic personal track safety training. Safety procedures and supervision were inadequate. Following the incident the employment agency introduced a number of changes including a mentoring system to monitor the progress of new staff.

"European Weeks have turned into a real trademark. In Austria much is being done. Seventeen labour inspectorates realised projects with partner schools, and the outcomes will be presented in October during a conference in Vienna. We also issued a special ‘Safe Start’ postage stamp on the day of the launch.
I am convinced that this European Week will contribute to a further improvement of health and safety at work, and I wish everyone great success."
