WHAT is the European Week for Safety and Health at Work?

The European Week is an information campaign designed to raise awareness and promote activities to make Europe a safe and healthy place to work. It provides a unique opportunity to focus attention on the importance of occupational health and safety. In 2000 attention will be paid to the prevention of work related musculoskeletal disorders. WHY does Europe need to pay attention to work related musculoskeletal disorders?

Who is organising the European Week?

It is being co-ordinated by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work and will be run in the 15 Member States of the EU. The Agency is the European Union organisation responsible for occupationnal safety and health information. the week has the full support of all Member States, employers organisation and trade union confederations across Europe as well as the European institutions (Commission and Parliament)

When is the week?

The Week is due to take place in October 2000.
Each Member State is deciding the precise week within October.

Who can take part in European week?

The Week is aimed at organisations, companies and workplaces of all sizes and sectors. In particular it is hoped to attract attention of small and medium size enterprises. Everybody involved in occupational safety and health matters is invited to take part, especially safety and health institutions and organisations, trades unions and employers organisations, companies, managers, employees and safety representatives.
